Life has been difficult for this young boy who was born in a cripple from the start. The chances were only a few and far between for the impoverished child as he was forced to live with his poor grandparents in the mountains. Nathan was incapable to attend to school because of the distance between his home and the school even though he wanted to change his life through going to school. Nathan’s Lolo had already become sick and weak if that was not bad enough.

Nathan was always left behind by his grandparents at their house because of this. Gratefully, he has a friend named Niko. Niko always sees whenever Nathan gets down and insecure about his disability as his real friend. Niko, however, always assured

Nathan that everything is going to be alright because he hates to see that his friend had a skepticism about himself and on his faith.

“Kasi may ibang plano siya sayo. Hindi pa natin alam kung ano, pero sigurado ako mas maganda pa kesa sa hinihiling mo. Ganun naman yun eh, magic lang.” 

One day, Niko and his family were going to different place, so he bids his final goodbyes to Nathan. But he still encouraged his friend by assuring him that he would always be there for him just like always.

“Wag kang malulungkot. Pumikit ka lang, tawagan mo ako sa puso at isip mo.”

Nathan celebrated his eighth birthday come Sunday that week. He and his grandparents went down the mountain and traveled into the city to go to church to thank God for another year. The celebrant only had one person in mind which is her friend throughout their trip. Nathan was surprised to notice that the Sto. Nino looked exactly like his friend as they arrived at the church. He suddenly heard something in his mind.

“Wag kang malulungkot.. pumikit ka lang.. tawagin moa ko sa puso at isip mo, Happy Birthday!”
