Geraldine Zamora-Racaza is one of the rheumatologist group that debunks this assumption. Based on her,
This is not true kahit gout pa ang rayuma."
Gout arthritis is caused by high uric acid which can be seen in high-purine foods, stated by Ester Gonzales-Penserga who also a rheumatologist. She also said that monggo beans don't carry high-purine levels.
According to her,
"Siguro ‘yung munggo nila may dilis, maalat, may chicharon kaya siguro nagkaroon ng atake ng gout. Baka ganun at hindi dahil sa munggo per se. Baka may ibang nagawa, baka nakainom, o di kaya na-dehydrate kaya umatake ang gout."
Here are some foods that we need to avoid because it contains a high-purine that can cause a Gout attack:
1. alcoholic drinks
2. some fish, shellfish such as crab, lobster, oysters and shrimp, and seafood including sardines, anchovies, mussels, scallops
3. some meats, such as beef, chicken, bacon, and organ meats like liver
They also said,
Dr. Gonzales-Penserga explained that another thing to consider is losing weight. She also said that the higher the body fat, the higher the uric acid is. She added that 80% of uric acid comes from the body while the 20% comes from the uric acid of food They also said that only those people who have a Gout arthritis should prevent their self from high purine foods.
