" Jessa Barrios, 28 yrs old from the Philippines. Currently living and working in Abu Dhabi, UAE. She's married and she has a 9-year-old daughter.
Last June 7, 2017, she was admitted to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi due to worsening shortness of breathing and abnormal weight loss prior to admission. She had CT scan-guided biopsy and found to have a non-small lung cancer (stage IV adenocarcinoma/ALK+). She had started on chemotherapy with CRIZOTINIB.
She's been in ICU twice due to acute respiratory distress syndrome and was intubated. On October 23, 2017, she has been scheduled for CT scan and MRI and the result was good, her lungs are very responsive to her chemotherapy treatment but unfortunately, cancer has spread to her brain already. Then her attending physician suggested that she needs to be scheduled for a radiation therapy.
Once she gets better she will be discharged from the hospital and she will be taking crizotinib continuously as maintenance medicine. Each 1 capsule costs around 2000aed in UAE (around 30,000 in peso) and she needs to take it twice daily.
