At such a young age, getting abandoned by your biological parents is truly a traumatizing encounter. Fernando Kuehnel and together with his brothers were left by their biological parents in an orphanage called Nayon ng Kabataan in which it became their second house at the age of 6. That moment of their lives was the time they met a lot of terrifying experiences like getting bullied by other children. Fernando also narrated her story wherein there are some kids who will put a hot pepper in their private parts of the body, lips, and their eyes. He then decided to run away from the orphanage leaving his two brothers there when he reached 10 years old because he couldn't take such treatments anymore. After he left on the orphanage, Fernando then experiences living in a much poorer environment. He will take his food that comes from the trash and lived on the streets pushing the ‘kariton’.But when he turned 13-year-old, his life turned around. A child who came from the similar orphanage also goes out and find him, delivering a news. The child said to him that his siblings were adopted by a couple from Wisconsin, America. After hearing the news, he then chooses to return to the orphanage in the hope he could also come with them and actually did. At first, their life in the U.S doesn't turn to be great. The people who adopted them return them again in the orphanage. And that is the moment where Kuehnel’s come into their lives and treat them as their own children. These men got a chance to studies in a public school. Fernando, however, will ride on a bus for one-hour to attend his English as a Second Language (ESL). Fernando then received his degree in Nursing and also became a summa cum laude with the course Business Administration in Healthcare when he continues his education.
One of the biggest pharmaceutical companies that are living with his family in their house in Dania, Beach, Florida now that he is a clinical scientist in Novartis. Fernando also wrote a book where he narrated the story of his life “My Third Parents: Orphanage to an American Dream”. He stated that the 100% of the money that he will earn on the book will be put on the foundation that he established called Kabataan Charity also known as ‘K-charity’. Fernando stated that he said to his children every day in his interview with ABS-CBN,
