CHR backs the Government suspension of OFW deployment bound to Kuwait

It is very surprising that it came to the point that the Commission on Human Rights(CHR) is backing up the government stand to the suspension of the deployment of the Overseas Filipino Workers bound to Kuwait waiting for the investigation on the loss of life of seven OFW's. One of the Commission on Human Rights Commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana, one of the CHR important person focusing specifically to the OFW's rights told that the decision of suspending the deployment of OFW's will gives the stakeholder time to think and apply the required reforms to strengthen and uphold the rights of the migrants workers, particularly those working as Household Service Workers. Comm. Gana said
"Migrant workers’ rights are human rights and we all share an obligation to make sure that our OFWs are treated well and fairly around the world,"

Gana added that her office is committed to cooperate and work with the Department of Foreign affairs, Department of Labor and Employment and other government agencies, civil society organizations, and OFW groups in exerting efforts for reforms that will create in decent work and safety migration. Sec. Silvestre Bello III has recently issued an administrative order instructing the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to stop the processing of the Overseas Employment Certificate(OEC) for the deploying OFW's bound to Kuwait due to the pending investigation of the loss of lives of seven migrant workers.

The tough President Duterte recently told his concern for the previous de*ths of OFW's in Kuwait and warned to ban or stop the deployment of OFW's in the Middle East Regions. The Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah spoke his disappointment on the threats of Pres. Duterte and strongly disclaim that Filipinos are maltreated. Al-Jarallah added that their foreign ministry has to request the Philippine authorities to give proofs on the alleged maltreatment of Filipinos.

Kuwait News agency stated that
"The huge expatriate community in Kuwait, including nearly 276,000 from the Philippines, testifies to the care and stability enjoyed by the expats,"
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Kuwait added
"The Filipino workers enjoy comfortable conditions that guarantee their rights regardless of recent unjustifiable fuss,"
Sec. Allan Peter Cayetano told last week that there have been actual discussions between the Philippine government and Kuwaiti official about the problems.
What can you say about the support of the CHR regarding the decision of the Philippine Government? Did you believe that their backing up to the government is real? Kindly share your comments and opinions with us.
